Student Review: “Ashford University Online is a wonderful school. The online classes allow flexibility for busy individuals, but also the challenge of a traditional university. The staff at Ashford University will help every step of the way from sign-up to completion of your degree. It is also very affordable in terms of price per credit. They also offer affordable payment plans for tuition costs, some of which don’t require payment until you earn your degree. The instructors are very fair, and work with students as much as possible. Overall a great school!” -Heather R., student at Ashford University Online
Student Review: “I enjoyed my time with the University of Phoenix. As a stay-at-home mom, I needed a college that would work around my schedule, and not the other way around. My personal financial and academic advisers worked closely with me to build a program that would help me efficiently complete my program while also keeping in mind the fact that I had other responsibilities. I felt the education I received was a quality one, but it does require motivation on the part of the student. You get out of it what you put into it. If I had the opportunity to change anything, it would be the posting requirement for weekly discussion questions. At times the questions weren’t quite substantial enough to warrant that much discussion.” -Tiffany M., student at University at Phoenix

Student Review: “Appalachian is a small school area wise with over seventeen thousand students attending. The campus is very small so getting to classes is very easy. I enjoy talking to people who are friendly and talkative. There is always something to do at app, either by the school or in the surrounding area. One thing that is somewhat disappointing is the number of minorities, the school is white dominated. Another thing that I do like about app, however, is the large number of females, though this is probably because I am a guy. The classes are difficult but very helpful in learning the needed material. I like most of my professors but like with everywhere in life there are some professors who weren’t very good.” -Drew C., student at Appalachian State University

Student Review “Gaston college has really been a wonderful experience for me. I have made lots of friends. I have also enjoyed my teachers and learned a lot about the subject matters that were taught to me. My teachers were very intriguing and they made class a joy to attend. I have been at Gaston for a little over two years now and I am currently about to finish up my last semester. Gaston college has made me pursing and completing my degree a very positive experience. Gaston is very culturally diverse and has a wide variety of age ranges from all walks of life. The only thing I would improve about Gaston is the attendance policy, a college should not have a limitation on the amount of days a student can miss without being dropped from a particular course. It should be completing on the student if they miss a certain amount of days and fall behind in a course. As of right now, you can only miss 3 days per semester.” -Mia B., student at Gaston College

Student Review: “I think the Criminal Justice program at Guilford College is amazing. It offers students a wide selection of classes. I remember being in my introduction to criminal justice class and being inspired listening my professor’s research work. The program is strong with professors such as Jerry Joplin, who wrote a leading criminal justice textbook. The program also has an advantage being in Greensboro because the city has a large prison and jail. This allows for the possibility of internships and local examples of what is right and wrong about the criminal justice system. Guilford is a good choice for a criminal justice program.” -Andris G., student at Guilford College

Student Review: “I graduated from high school in 2007 and wanted to go to a big time university and party and have fun. After one year of doing that at UNC Pembroke, I was back at home for failing grades. I then enrolled at South Piedmont Community College for criminal justice. Being back at home really made me focus on getting my education. I loved my criminal justice classes and my instructors. The classes were really interesting and I learned a lot from them which prepared me for where I am now, a deputy sheriff in my home town. The thing that I liked the most about the college is the small class sizes and the hands on learning.” -Kacey M., student at South Piedmont Community College

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte (Charlotte, NC)
Criminal Justice Degrees Offered:
Bachelor of Arts | Criminal Justice
Master of Science | Criminal Justice

Student Review: “The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is a large (and growing) university located in one of the nation’s best cities for young people. The administration has demonstrated a commitment to growth—in academic quality, new facilities, and athletically. The school has over 25,000 students and offers 19 doctoral, 62 master’s, and 90 bachelor’s degree programs through 9 colleges. I had a great experience in the Political Science and History departments, where I received instruction from professors who were also respected, published authors. My friends in the Engineering and Physics departments were able to take advantage of state-of-the art facilities such as the brand-new clean-room and collaborations with universities such as UC Berkley. One thing that could be improved is freshman student housing, which should be taken care of with the new dorms that are being constructed.” -Andrew C., student at University of North Carolina
Student Review: “I greatly enjoyed my school’s criminal justice program for various reasons. For one, I was given the opportunity to learn from great teachers who were always personable and helpful. That was the best part. One of my favorite teachers is an expert in terrorism and has many contacts within the FBI, NSA, and other huge government agencies. My Junior year, I decided to work on my debate and speaking skills (both very important in regards to criminal justice). I joined the school’s Model United Nations program which allowed me to discuss criminal justice in regards to the international community. I traveled to Singapore, Singapore and Vancouver, British Columbia, speaking with like-minded individuals from all over the world in order to solve the world’s greatest problems that face the global community’s justice systems and mechanisms. Some days, I even wish I could do it all again! I loved every moment. The program was a life changing event.” -Student at University of North Carolina

Bachelor of Science | Forensic Science
Bachelor of Science | Parks and Recreation Management

Student Review: “Western Carolina University was a great experience that is largely taylored to students working full time and seeking to further their education. While they also offer a traditional and residential setting, the online program is largely what sets them apart from other universities. Their Forensic Science course is cutting edge and also offer many options from a social perspective. Many students who graduated from the criminal justice program with me were already employed in law enforcement, but were seeking a career change in the same field and gained valuable experience and job related skills. Western Carolina also spares no expence in ensuring that they keep up with this constantly changing field as new technology comes available. The advisors are also rated very high and keep every student up to date with graduation requirements, which most people with any experience in college understand can be a hassle. I would not recommend the online program to anyone who has novice computer skills. Regular communication is required including: sending and recieving emails several times daily, replying to message boards, using several microsoft programs, blackboard, and occasional installation of codecs or java for viewing streaming seminars and classes.” – student at Western Carolina University
