There is nothing worth sacrificing your integrity for and the ends never justify the means. Student Review: “I could not write a more glowing review for ITT Technical University. I became a mother at a young age and was a stay at home mom. The summer before my youngest child began attending elementary school, I spent months touring local universities, trying to find the best fit for me. I found it at ITT. The instructors went above and beyond their job description, even supplying me with their home phone number. I graduated almost a year ago and when a question arises, I don’t hesitate to contact them I was employed in the office and as a student assistant while I tended classes and my schedule was very easy for me to continue being a single mother efficiently. I found my classes to be very interesting, covering topics that I use every day in my job as a probation officer. I obtained this job through their job assistance program. ITT helped me from the first step of obtaining grants and assistance to the final step of interview preparedness and now I can comfortably say this is the best thing I have ever done for me and my children’s lives.” -Student at ITT Technical Institute

Student Review: “I went to school knowing that I would someday become a police officer, so a criminal justice degree would be the perfect thing to help me get to where I wanted to go. The teachers and staff at JJ College were amazingly helpful, each person that I met went out of their way to help me achieve my goals and answer any questions that I had. We had quite a few guest speakers, one of which my professor helped me secure an internship with, and this was a really great experience for me. The one thing that I didn’t like about the school was that it didn’t let me transfer all of my high school credits and I had to start over completely. Other than that I had a great time at this school and I learned a lot that would help me later in life.” -Student at John Jay College Criminal Justice

Student Review: “John Jay College of Criminal Justice in NYC was almost everything I could hope for. I majored in Criminal Justice and minored in Law. I found that the teachers were great with many of them challenging me a great deal. However, along with those challenges came reward. I was able to learn many things. I was also able to view actual court cases in my studies and take part in many mock trials. The school’s online classes were a huge plus, especially for those who worked. Though my teachers went above the normal for a teacher there were definitely draw backs. The personnel at the school were rather disorganized.”-Student at John Jay College Criminal Justice
Student Review: “I believe studying both Criminal Justice and Forensic Psychology gave me a well-rounded education at John Jay College. The programs offered many fascinating and courses and elective classes that really peaked my many interests within the field, including forensics, juvenile delinquency, social deviance, and probation and parole. There were many clubs and extra-curricular activities to get involved in. What I enjoyed most were the many professors who were professionals in the field (i.e. corrections and probation officers, psychologists, etc.). The thing I did not like was the sparse availability of some classes in the evening which was the time I went to school. John Jay was also in the process of constructing a brand new building for the school which caused some crowding within the school. Unfortunately, the new building finished construction the year I graduated so I was not able to access the newer facilities or technology the school had to offer. Overall, I enjoyed attending John Jay College.”-Student at John Jay College Criminal Justice

Student Review: “Attending Hilbert College is an amazing experience. Being a small, private school with only about 1,000 students, the student to faculty ratio is 14:1, making Hilbert the most intimate learning institution I have ever come across. And it’s not just the class size that makes Hilbert unique. The professors all have careers in their field of teaching. If they teach criminal justice, you can also find them over at the Police Station or a correctional facility nearby. And they aren’t only knowledgeable in their field; they care about the success of their students. They will work one-on-one with you for any question you may have. They are approachable and understanding. The college itself is located in a great town: my hometown, Hamburg, NY. Hamburg is minutes from the waterfront, city life, and nature preserves. There’s something for every type of student to enjoy nearby – if they can convince themselves to tear away from Hilbert.” -Amy F., student at Hilbert College

Student Review: “Marist had an incredible campus that both scenic and well-kept. I disliked the fact that the advising system is so off. I could have saved money and graduated sooner had my adviser known what planet he was on. The software used to get kids into classes is convoluted and confusing apparently, because my adviser had no idea how to use it. Aside from this, there were wonderful experiences to do be had at Marist. The new Hancock building was sensational. There were also lots of endowed scholarships at the college, and I managed to apply for one and was chosen for it.” -Joanna C., student at Marist College

Student Review: “The criminal justice program at Niagara University is absolutely among the best in New York state. The first exceptional thing about the criminal justice program is the professors. More than five of the faculty hold PhDs in criminal justice from the University of Albany, regarded as one of the top programs in the world. They have also published major longitudinal studies on crime that have influenced public policy throughout the United States. Lastly, what sets Niagara University apart even more, is their relationship with local law enforcement. Student Review: “RIT has an absolutely beautiful campus despite the dreary weather conditions of Rochester, New York. The school is secluded from the city, allowing for a strong sense of community on a campus that is buzzing with life. As a member of the mathematics program at the school, I must say that our department is fantastic and has some of the very best teaching talent in the nation; professors that will gladly engage students in schoolwork and research opportunities. The school also has well known engineering and imaging science programs, the presence of which create a unique dichotomy of art and science majors on campus. There are several options for living on campus, all of which are pretty modern and clean but relatively expensive. Off-campus housing is close by, however, and significantly more affordable. The entire campus has phenomenal wi-fi access, and the school has a well-run IT service that will gladly fix any computer issues you have. The food is excellent and the social scene is quite lively to boot.” -Sam K., student at Rochester Institute of Technology

Student Review: “The St. John’s University undergraduate program in Criminal Justice was a great learning experience. I found each course to be extremely insightful and never dry. I was always looking forward to attending class because the time flew by each time. The professors were also highly knowledgeable and very accomplished in the Law Enforcement field. I especially loved hearing about their own personal stories because it was very inspiring. There were a variety of topics covered within the Criminal Justice field – ranging from Theories of Crime to Penal Law. Students also had great internship opportunities available such as with the NYC Police Department, US Attorney’s Office and many more. Overall, my college experience has been a notable experience in my life that has made me into a better person.” -Cindy J., student at St. John’s University

SUNY College at Oneonta (Oneonta, NY)
Criminal Justice Degrees Offered:
Bachelor of Science | Criminal Justice

Student Review: “SUNY Oneonta was a wonderful experience for me. The class sizes were small enough that we could receive one on one attention from professors if needed. They were always willing to have extra office hours if you wanted them too. The food at SUNY Oneonta was excellent. I lived in Hulbert Hall, which had its own dining services in the downstairs. It was very convenient to be able to just walk downstairs in my pajamas and get something to eat, rather than trucking all the way across campus. One downside to SUNY Oneonta was all of the excessive drinking that occurred. Many nights I would be kept awake or hindered from studying due to drunk dorm-mates being loud and rowdy. Several times I had to get an RA to settle things down. Other than that, I really enjoyed my experience there and am glad I chose Dietetics as a major. I immediately got a job after graduating and am still in the Nutrition field today.” -Cheyenne S., student at SUNY College at Oneonta

Criminal Justice Degrees Offered:

Doctor of Philosophy | Criminal Justice
Master of Arts | Criminal Justice

Student Review: “My experience at SUNY Albany was definitely a positive one. I transferred into UAlbany junior year from a very large public university in Florida and the staff helped me transfer in easily. The main uptown campus is beautiful in the spring and fall months. Winters in Albany can definitely be harsh at times but the tunnels in the podium help keep the students out of the weather. I studied Criminal Justice, which is one of the best programs in the country. My classes averaged at 30 students so it was easy to make friends and get personal time with the professor if needed. Many of my professors were very helpful and always available to meet if needed. Social life at UAlbany is definitely one of the highlights; there are so many different clubs and organizations to join. I pledged a sorority while I was there and it was one of the best decisions of my life. One major complaint I had was the food. The food in the cafeterias are not great at all and the hours do not accommodate students well.” -Gina P., student at SUNY-Albany

SUNY-Buffalo State College (Buffalo, NY)
Criminal Justice Degrees Offered:
Bachelor of Science | Criminal Justice
Bachelor of Science | Forensic Chemistry

Student Review: “My experience at Buffalo State College was a frustrating one. I transferred there with two years left until finishing my BA. However because of the lack of professors it took me three years to finish. It was almost impossible to get into the classes I needed to graduate, a problem the whole student body shared. There was not enough space in the dorms so my first semester I spent living at a hotel they put 200 or so students at. We had to take a school bus every day to classes. On campus there were barely any parking spots. The dorms were old and very dirty. The campus was not at all designed in a way that made sense for the freezing winters in Buffalo. The food available in the union was very overpriced and poor quality. There were some very good professors but there were also a lot who were terrible. I made a lot of very good friends and am still in contact with a few of my better professors. The good people are what made the school enjoyable.” -Ann H., student at SUNY-Buffalo State College

SUNY-Columbia-Greene Community College (Hudson, NY)

Student Review: “Co-Greene is a very small college and very intimate. I enjoy attending this college because the professors are extremely approachable, the students deserve to be there, and the educational standard is top notch. The campus is small and accessible, and I don’t feel like another face in the crowd. I am always remembered by the staff and I never drown in the sea of a lecture hall. There are many activities, and although the college does not have dorms, there is still a very strong sense of community. My major disagreement is with the administration, which can sometimes be very difficult to work with and can hold back students wanting to progress in the school.” -Rebecca A., student at SUNY-Columbia-Greene Community College

Student Review: “Dutchess Community College is a fantastic school to attend. It’s tuition rate is actually the cheapest in New York. DCC is located in the Hudson Valley of Poughkeepsie, NY. This area is rich with diversity, and has helped me connect with people from all around the country that majored in the various degrees offered. Most of the teachers here have been really understanding, and whenever I’ve had a problem, they would be willing to work with me, or led me to the various student centers that offered assistance to students that needed additional help. What sets DCC apart from other colleges is the ability to transfer most of my credits to any other SUNY school in the state with ease. The only downside to DCC for me was the food, the somewhat outdated computers, and slow internet. Other than that though, this school was fantastic for a 2-year college experience, and the teachers inspired me to open my mind and learn.” -Sebastian K., student at SUNY-Dutchess Community College
Student Review: “The time I spent at Dutchess Community College was a great time not only during my college career, but in my life as well. I wasn’t prepared to go away to a four year school just yet, so I enrolled at Dutchess hoping to make it easier for me. Within the first few months I was already getting into the swing of college life because of the professors and other staff members’ strong sense of community and communication. I loved the fact that the school was a small campus, but built beautifully into the hills of the Hudson Valley. Nearly every single professor I had was terrific, the learning environment motivating, and the other students friendly. If I could go back and do it all again, I would, and not just for the unbelievably low tuition rate.” -William W., student at SUNY-Dutchess Community College

Student Review: “I loved SUNY Ulster. The professors care so much about their students, and we had an average class size of 18 (though I never had a class over 12). When it came to academics, it was the same as any expensive four-year school, but it was a much more economically minded choice. If I could go back and change anything, I wouldn’t. The student body is extremely active, and involved, especially so for a commuter school. At Ulster, we were more than a community college, we were a community. In closing I would just like to say, SUNY-Ulster, you have to love a place that starts with U.” -Michael A., student at SUNY-Ulster County Community College
